Workshop
Surveys of Municipal Elites: What They Are, Why They're Valuable, and How You Can Get Involved
Friday, February 4, 2022 · 10:00–11:00am
In the past decade, surveys of elected municipal politicians have become an increasingly common research method in local and urban politics.
In this workshop, we will discuss the motivations for surveys of municipal political elites, the strengths and weaknesses of elite survey data, and the role of municipal elite surveys in research on local and urban politics, elite political behaviour, and political representation.
We will also discuss how emerging data-collection efforts in other areas (e.g. large public opinion surveys, municipal policy indicators, municipal fiscal data) can substantially increase the value of elite survey data.
